Canada had the most successful World Championships ever with 40 riders earning a world ranking by making it to the coveted Main Event! The track was one of the most technical ones in recent years, which made for exciting racing.
Highlights include the 3-peat performance by Peter Jensen from Maple Ridge, BC in the 45+ Cruiser class. The crowd was jubilant as he raced to the finish line to take his third World Championship title in a row. Peter is such a gracious champion and a true ambassador to Canadian BMX.
Tory Nyhaug from BC aced his motos and qualifiers proving to the world’s best 15 year old riders that he was a force to be reckoned with in the main. He blew away the competition and brought the crowd to its feet as he flew down the last straight, then turned to the crowd after crossing the line in first and raised both arms saluting the fans. What a moment!
Parker Simpson won the 9 boys class after having rivaled the competition through his motos and qualifiers. What a great accomplishment for such a young rider!
Canada is grooming a strong girls squad. In 10 girls, Drew Michielsen from BC was tops in her motos and was leading the pack in the main when a huge crash landed her in 8th. Teammate Daina Tuscherer took 2nd. Drew came back to take 3rd in the 12& under girls cruiser class on Sunday. In 8 girls action, Casey Knowles made an impressive 2nd place finish. In 11 girls, AB’s Ilana Just, who was 2nd at last year’s Worlds was gunning for the main event win when she tangled with another rider and went down, finishing in 7th.
I was so proud of all of our riders, and we proved to the world that we can compete with the best. I would also like to thank everyone for their patience, positive encouragement, and for being true champions.

Le Canada vient de vivre son meilleur championnat du
monde de BMX dépuis jamais, avec 40 coureurs dans les finales.
La merveilleuse – et difficile – piste nous a livré
de superbes courses plein de suspens.
Parmi les points forts du championnat, Peter Jensen de Maple Ridge,
C-B, à remporté son troisième titre d’affilée
chez les hommes 45 ans et plus en cruiser. Peter est un « gentleman
» et un véritable ambassadeur pour notre sport.
Tory Nyhaug (C-B) a gagné toutes les manches vers son titre mondial chez les garçons de 15 ans. Durant la finale, le moment où il entamait la dernière ligne droite en tête, devant des estrades plein a craquer, était inoubliable.
Et Parker Simpson (C-B) a remporté le titre chez les garçons de 9 ans, un véritable exploit pour ce jeune athlète.
La nouvelle génération de canadiennes était présente, aussi. Chez les filles de 10 ans, Drew Michielsen a dominé ses motos avant de terminer huitième en finale suite à une chute. Sa coéquipière, Diana Tuscherer, termine deuxième. Drew s’est redressé pour remporter la médaille de bronze en cruiser 12 ans et moins le dimanche. Chez les filles de 8 ans, Casey Knowles termine un impressionnant deuxième, tandis que Ilana Just d’Alberta, vice championne l’an dernier, était sur le point de remporter le titre des filles 11 ans avant de s’accrocher sur une concurrente et tomber. Elle termina septième.
Je suis fier de tous nos coureurs, et nous avons montré
au monde entier que nous sommes capables a lutter pour la victoire.

The Canadian Cycling Associaton would like to offer its apologies to all Canadian challenge athletes who received a jersey of the wrong size or who did not receive a jersey at all at the World Championships in Victoria.
The CCA is preparing an additional order of jerseys to ensure that all athletes end up with a jersey of the correct size. We are also prepared to refund the cost of the jersey if that is the preferred option.
If you are one of the affected athletes, please verify that your name is on the list below.
If your name is not there, please contact your provincial
representative with the following information before August 25th:
- The athlete’s name
- The size of the jersey the athlete should receive (youth sizes: xxs,
xs, s, m, l, xl; adult sizes: xs, s, m, l, xl)
- The number of jerseys
- Or, if you prefer a refund, please indicate for how many jerseys and
to whom the check should be made out
If you did receive a jersey but it was the wrong size, please indicate this to your provincial representative so we can arrange its return.
Once again, our sincere apologies for the frustration and inconvenience many of you experienced with the jerseys in Victoria, and thank you for your patience.

L’ACC prépare une commande supplémentaire de maillots pour nous assurer que tous les athlètes reçoivent les maillots qu’ils sont dus. Nous sommes également prêts à rembourser le coût du maillot si vous préférez.
